This is such a true sentiment, I’ve cut and pasted Kajsa’s blog post here for you all to read as she put it so well-
”It really upsets me how many people in the film industry want to free the recently arrested Roman Polanski, the director who 32 years ago pleaded guilty to drugging and raping a 13-year old girl, but then fled the US and his punishment to make films in Europe instead. Last week he was finally arrested, much to the dismay of Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, Pedro Almodóvar, Monica Bellucci and a looong list of other people I used to admire who has signed a petition to free Polanski immediately, see more here. The petition puts emphasis on Polanski´s talent and the sanctity of film festivals, and seem to say that it´s okay for a talented film director to rape a child and then flee justice. Read this great article for more background info. So far only one prominent person has spoken out against Polanski, French director Luc Besson:
“This is a man who I love a lot and know a little bit. Our daughters are good friends. But there is one justice, and that should be the same for everyone. I will let justice happen… I don’t have any opinion on this, but I have a daughter, 13 years old. And if she was violated, nothing would be the same, even 30 years later.”
If only more people with a heart and a sense of justice would step forward!”
-Ditto from me.
